What I learned since I stopped Drinking

One Year Without Alcohol…What I Have Learned Since I Stopped Drinking

It’s now been one year since I stopped drinking alcohol…and so thought I would share what I have experienced and what I have learned and experienced!
  • I’ve noticed a dramatic improvement in overall physical health.
    • easiest it’s ever been to maintain low body fat, and a lean body
      • I think this has to do because I’m not consuming thousands of extra empty calories
      •  And it’s easier to make healthier choices in general, choosing better foods, drinking more water, taking more exercise, and purposefully sleeping better.
    • I’ve noticed my skin has improved and more clear
    • Way more energy!  No dealing with hangovers or recovery time from drinking.
  •  I’ve noticed improvements in mental health
    • increased happiness
    • decreased anxiety
    • more motivation
    • less moments of depression
    • fewer regrets when living alcohol free.
    • alcohol tends to make personal problems worse.
  • I’m way more productive
    • I have more energy, and my brain just works better!
  • Sleep dramatically improves. I find it much easier to fall asleep, I sleep much better throughout the night, and I feel much more rested upon waking.
  • Saving a lot of money
    • If you spend $50 a week on alcohol, then that’s $2,400 a year!!!
  •  I’ve learned that I don’t actually need to drink to have fun and enjoy myself at parties and social gatherings, thus exposing the great cultural lie that alcohol equals a good time. I’ve actually discovered that alcohol actually strains social relationships rather than strengthening them.
  •  People who drink are incredibly judgmental towards non-drinkers
    • It’s true….alcohol is the only drug in the world you have to justify why you don’t take it!
  •  Booze fueled conversations are actually boring, ego-driven and quite superficial, as well as highly prone to aggressiveness, bickering, fighting and ill sentiments.
  • I’ve realized that people can be just as toxic as substances, and that many relationships are not able to survive without the crutch of booze. I’ve come to learn a great deal about who my true friends really are.
  • Final Thoughts

  • Not drinking alcohol can give you a serious edge in a society where most everyone else is boozing it up on a regular basis.
  •  Abstaining from booze makes the self improvement process much easier.
  • Not drinking alcohol is cool because it makes you different, unique, it’s like a superpower knowing you don’t need alcohol to have fun 🙂

Will I ever drink alcohol again?
I’m not sure!  I’m not counting the days, and I’ve never told myself that I would never drink again.  I just love feeling awesome all the time, having great energy, and I’ve learned how to have fun without it!  At this time in my life I am enjoying staying clean so that I can continue to get stronger and healthier, and also to be as productive as possible so that I can explode my businesses!  But who knows, maybe someday I will drink again.  I think when we count the days and tell ourselves that we’ll NEVER drink again that it actually makes it harder…nobody likes having things taken away from them.  Instead of feeling something is taken away from you, just see it as a privilege to become the best version of yourself!
