How to Set Goals You’ll Achieve | Outcome Goals Vs Process Goals
Have you ever set a goal and took all the right action to achieve it, yet didn’t accomplish the goal??
That can be defeating when that happens, especially if it feels like you’re setting the same goals over and over trying to accomplish them.
Our brains is interesting in that it likes rewards. If we don’t feel like we’re being rewarded in even the smallest way then we tend to get frustrated in lose hope in what we are doing. That is why it is critical to set up simple reward systems so that you don’t lose drive and passion.
There are two main types of goals: Outcome Goals and Process goals
Most people only set outcome goals. Outcome goals are based on the ultimate outcome that you want to achieve. For example: To get a six pack, to become a millionaire, to make 10 sales this month, etc.
Process goals are goals based on action. Process goals make your outcome goals become a reality. Example of process goals: I will go to the gym 5x this week, I will save $1,000 a month, I will make 100 sales calls a day. These are goals that you have full control over achieving. It’s a choice to go to the gym or not.
Process goals you can control. Outcome goals you can’t always control exactly how it will work out, you can only take the proper actions to ensure that you’re increasing your odds. You can make 100 sales calls a day and still go a week without making any sales because maybe all the cards just didn’t fall in your favor and your sales will all come next week.
Take a look at all of your goals and notice if they are process or outcome goals. You may find that most of them are outcome goals. So now take some time to break these goals down and create more process goals that you can achieve today, this week, goals that you have full control over.
By doing this you will achieve the process goals since you have control of them and then you will be continually rewarding your brain which will help you to maintain motivation.
