When the Dalai Lama was asked in an interview what confused him most, he replied “modern man”.
Man surprised him most about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.
Such great wisdom on why we shouldn’t hold off. Don’t wait to start living your dreams. Live your dreams now.
I believe we all have dreams. Dreams about the possibility of what our life could be like. We watch people on the TV and movies, and think “boy that’d sure be nice to live like that.” But then a part of us says, that’s just not possible.
The thing that stops us is fear. It’s no surprise. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of not looking good, fear of what other people will think about us, and that fear we can translate into the simple thing of uncertainty. Great leaders know how to step into uncertainty and bring the certainty to the situation.
Live your dreams.
I remember one time I read about a psychiatrist that did a study and was talking about how his patients reacted when they got information that they were going to die…. immediately. He said that many of these patients that had gone through years of therapy that should have been making decisions about their careers, their marriage, their relationships, or about their circumstances and somehow or another they were stuck and didn’t have the personal power or will power or wherewithal to act within their best interest. But when they were told that they had three months to live or six months to live, all of a sudden these people who were initially victims or powerless, all of a sudden they started acting in their own best interest. They started living their lives. What a paradox that once people are told they are going to die they start seeing the daisies in life, they start seeing the beauty in life.
If you face your fears you become the person you want to be. If you run from your fears your not living. These are serious matters.
Matters of the heart are serious.
It doesn’t matter what your born with, it doesn’t matter your potential, if you were born with a silver spoon or how much money you have, all that can be attained if you show up, and if your willing to risk failure for success.
